What is a holistic health counselor?
A holistic health counselor is your personal advocate and ally for living a radiant healthy life. Holistic health counselors listen to your unique story and help you discover and dissolve your personal obstacles to being well. We offer unparalleled health education, compassion and presence to our clients through personalized counseling programs.
How are you qualified to do this work?
After many years of personal education and experience in the areas of holistic wellbeing and sustainable living I was privileged to attend one of the most thorough and progressive health education institutes in the world. My education at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) gave me the ability to couple my unique gifts and passions with cutting edge health information in a counseling model that effectively helps others feel well. I am certified as a Holistic Health Counselor through IIN as well as Columbia University's Teacher's College. I am also an accredited member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. To learn more about the personal perspective I bring to this work please read Meet Jo.
How does holistic health counseling work?
Holistic health counseling works with the alchemy of attention attraction and education. By engaging in one of our holistic health counseling programs you communicate to yourself and to the universe that you are ready to feel well. Once this priority is made clear the doors of healing possibility swing open. That is where we begin. We then align with wellbeing through a series of counseling sessions in which you are encouraged to speak openly and honestly, be heard, and build a solid loving relationship with yourself. During the course of the program you will learn about the many aspects of health and how they may be improved in your life through learning to listen to your body. You will learn about whole foods, food effects/reactions, cooking methods, appropriate physical activity, genuine self care, deepening your connection with the divine, co-creative manifestation, goal setting and follow through, time management, among other tools for bringing your life into greater balance. Our online client center will provide extensive resources for this education. Most of the work and nearly all of the reward of these programs will happen between sessions in your daily life as the universe unfolds for you in response to your intention.
How do I start?
To begin this exciting journey you may schedule a Free Initial Consultation with us so that we can get to know one another and determine if we are a good counselor/client match.
Does what I eat really matter?
You know the old saying "you are what you eat"? Very true. What we eat is absorbed by our bodies and turned into our blood, bones, cells, skin, organs, and brain, as well as our thoughts and feelings. The quality of the food we eat and what our bodies are able to do with it lay the foundation for the quality of our physical health as well as our mental state, energy level, and outlook on life.
Is this all about food?
There are many aspects to living a healthy life and feeling well. It is my experience that none of them stand alone. To support your overall health and wellbeing we will discuss the ways in which you are nourished (or not) by your career, relationships, spirituality, physical activity, and your personal beliefs. In this program we will call the non-food aspects of your nourishment Primary Food* and the food you eat Secondary Food*
Will this program help me lose weight?
Throughout this program we will work to bring your entire system and lifestyle into greater balance. If you are carrying extra weight as a result of a physical or emotional imbalance you may find yourself loosing weight as a by product of good health practices. When our bodies are supported to live in healthy balance they naturally find their own healthy weight. Instead of focusing on the numbers on the scale or the calories consumed, we will address the possible causes for the extra weight you may be carrying.
Why do some diets work great for some people and not at all for others?
Every body is different. Each of us is a unique creation with unique needs. Your personal physical make up (including your ancestry, blood type, Ayurvedic dosha, etc.) will affect which diets work well for you and which don't. Your age, gender, upbringing, health conditions, climate, temperament, and lifestyle will also greatly affect what your body needs. During this program, we will take all these aspects into account as well as your likes, dislikes, and cooking abilities in order to create a food and lifestyle approach that works well for you.
